Kenya (Feb 2018)

In 2018 I went to Kenya on my first overseas mission trip. Although God drew me towards ministry as a teenager, and I’d been active in my local church, this was my first opportunity to go on an overseas mission trip. It was amazing to experience Kenyan culture and see God at work in a foreign country.

The mission trip was led by David De Jong, a senior missionary dedicated to serving the Lord and His Kingdom in Africa. David, together with his wife Sylvia, are missionaries with Africa Inland Mission (AIM). They are both in their eighties and have been serving in missions for several years. I met them a few years ago at church when they shared about their ministry in Africa. Mr. De Jong is a construction engineer who uses his trade to help with construction projects for churches and Bible institutes in Africa. Mrs. De Young wrote a Bible study titled “Widows of the Old Testament” and has a widow outreach ministry. Kenya is located in east Africa between Lake Victoria and the Indian Sea. We landed in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where we stayed a few days to recover from the jet lag before heading southeast to Nduluku to settle in and prepare for work on our project. On this trip, I and seven other people partnered as a team to help Mr. De Jong replace the roof on the administration building at the Nduluku Bible Institute. While in Kenya, we had the opportunity to visit and worship with several local churches around Nduluku. Also paid a visit to the local airport in Nairobi and toured the facilities of MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) and AIM Air both serving with aircraft in Kenya and neighboring countries. Growing up reading stories of Africa and missionaries serving there, it was amazing to visit it myself our fellow Christians living and working there. I hope to go back!

With the help of many friends and family all my expenses were covered for this trip! Those expenses included air tickets, passport and visa, medical immunization shots, malaria tablets, food, housing, and travel. Thank you!

For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” Acts 13:47
